Mrs. Manlun's English class recently attended the "Build My Future" event at Tulsa Tech. Students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, operate heavy equipment, explore virtual simulations, and learn about various employment opportunities in different fields. Each student also received a free t-shirt and lunch. A special thank you to Kelley Rampey, our High School College and Career Readiness Coordinator, for helping to organize the trip. #whatsupwednesday

The 9GC would love to thank Bixby Education Endowment Fund for granting 3 of our BEEF Grants!
The Library will be receiving funds for enrichment maker’s spaces, the Math Department for extra Logitech crayons for kids who can’t ’afford them to use in class, and the Spanish department will be purchasing class sets of headphones!

This past Wednesday the 9GC had a special guest, Governor Stitt.
He, and his team sat down with students, teachers, and parents to discuss Bixby's newly implemented cellphone policy!
The Governor wanted to see how the new policy has been beneficial, and also to see where others could improve upon it!
Thank you, Governor Stitt for making time to visit BPS!

Señora Nevills, Señor Cox, and Señora Rangel's classes all recently got to participate in an amazing tortilla workshop that Señora Nevills created. Students measured, mixed, and pressed their own corn tortillas, then cooked them on the griddles. The students did a wonderful job and learned a lot about the major role tortillas play in mealtimes throughout Mexico and Central America.

Mrs. Manlun's English class had a great time visiting Mrs. Leete's Pre-K class at Central Elementary on Halloween! They read some fun stories and did a craft together. They also handed out candy to students. #motivationalmonday

Mrs. Manlun's classes recently had the privilege of hosting guest speaker Kay Vernier, LCSW from Youth Services of Creek County, in their English classes.
Mrs. Vernier used art to connect the short story "Most Dangerous Game," which students have read in class. She spoke to students about coping skills during a crisis, using art as an example of a healthy coping skill. Then, she had the students create their own version of Ship-Trap Island from the story.
A big thank you to Mrs. Vernier and Youth Services of Creek County for her time and energy! We appreciate it!

Today our 9th-grade center just held a mock Presidential election! 🗳️
Over the past few days, they’ve been learning about the election process, discussing candidates' platforms, and understanding the importance of civic engagement.
It was amazing to see our young learners take their roles as informed voters seriously. This hands-on experience not only taught them about government and voting, but also helped them realize the power of their future voices in shaping our country. 🇺🇸
Thank you to all the students, teachers. and volunteers who made this event possible, and here’s to inspiring the next generation of informed, engaged citizens! #FutureVoters #MockElection2024 #spartansvote

Happy Election Day, Spartans!
