Bixby East Elementary

East Elementary will be opening the doors Monday August, 7th from 5:00-6:00. This will be an opportunity for new students and families to explore the building and acclimate to a new school. Classrooms will not be accessible at this time.

What do teachers do during summer? East Elementary's first grade team attended professional development through OERB! The Energy Education workshops provide teachers with exciting and engaging lessons and activities for students to learn basic concepts about earth science, physical science and math through hands-on activities. OERB also provides free field trips to teachers and students to connect in-class learning with hands-on, energy related experiences.

Today we recognized our 22-23 Volunteer of the Year Rachel Irwin! Rachel serves as our current PTO president. She has spent countless hours helping within the classrooms, building, and with family engagement activities! Rachel has played a vital role in coordinating the Turkey Trot, Bingo-night and East Family Movie night at the stadium!

This Saturday, our district fine arts team is hosting its 1st annual Bixby Fine Arts Fair at downtown Charlie Young Park from 10 am-6 pm. It will be a full day of food trucks, art, and music! Ms. Karalis has chosen EE artwork to feature which will be on display at Crossroads Fellowship Church. Mrs. Stevenson has some 3rd graders who will be featured on the main stage at 2:30 pm. There will be drama and poetry readings at Copper Key Coffeehouse, artwork on display all day, and MS and MS bands, jazz bands, choirs, and musical performances. The weather will be perfect to get out, and enjoy some yummy food, beautiful art, and music!

We will be participating in "Global School Play Day" this Wednesday, February 1st. This is a special day filled with free, unstructured play for our students. The purpose of this day is to allow children time to engage in appropriate, screen-free play for an entire day! GSPD was introduced on February 4, 2015 and has gained momentum every year since, with more than 75 nations and 1,000,000 students now participating!! Our students will be doing classroom rotations throughout the day. They will have the opportunity to do STEM activities, building blocks, board games, creative art, puzzles, playdough, and so much more! We believe this will be a fantastic, FUN day for our students to simply allow them to be "little", and to allow them to experience the joys of creative, unlimited structures of authentic play!
