Gel Electrophroesis is used in many ways in labs around the world and this week students in Pre-AP Biology got to use this equipment to examine DNA from 5 humpback whales to determine familial relationships of a pod. They were required to learn how to use micropipettes and got the opportunity to see how electricity separates DNA into identifiable patterns, each unique to an individual. Students enjoyed feeling like "real scientists" in this STEAM lab.
