State Testing for Juniors + Virtual Days
April 5th: ACT
April 19th: Other State Required Tests
FAQ’s
Why is BPS having a Virtual School Day? To give Juniors the most similar ACT testing environment to that of a national ACT test day, and to limit the disruption of the school day for all 9th-12th grade students to one day as opposed to six days of testing required to administer the ACT during a regular school day.
Why are there two days? One day (4/5) is for the ACT test and the other day (4/19) is for the state required tests. Both require the entire junior class to be tested.
If I am a full time virtual Junior, can I still participate in the ACT? Yes. Please report to school at 8:40, and we will direct you to a testing room.
What is Virtual School Day? Bixby High School, 9th Grade Center, and Brassfield Learning Center are “closed” so 9th, 10th, and 12th grade students will complete their daily work from home on Canvas.
Why does the Virtual Day not include 11th graders? All BPS Juniors will be ON CAMPUS to take the ACT and the state tests.
Will a make up day be offered for students unable to attend? The Make-Up Day for the ACT is April 18th during the school day. ACT is a mandatory test for graduation and ACT scores are required by many 4-year colleges and universities. Make-up tests for the state tests will take place throughout the days following April 19th.
Will breakfast and lunch be provided as usual? Yes, though students may not eat at the same time as normal due to the testing schedule.
Where are Juniors supposed to report on April 5th and 19th? Students will be notified in their English classes the day before testing where to report. Teachers will be in the hallways the morning of testing days helping direct students if they are unsure of their room assignment.
What do 11th graders need to bring to school for the ACT? The ACT is an online test and requires students to bring a charged chromebook, #2 sharpened pencils, and a calculator is optional (calculator in the online version of ACT).
Will 11th graders taking the ACT test have access to their phones? Students are encouraged to leave their phones at home or in their vehicles. Students are NOT ALLOWED to have a cell phone at any time during the school day. This INCLUDES lunch and breaks. Student tests will be invalidated if a student is found with a cell phone.
What if I am a Sophomore or Senior and I attend Tech? Even though Sophomores and Seniors are virtual, they will need to attend their TCC/Tulsa Tech classes. Tulsa Tech buses will continue to run as usual.
How will attendance be counted for students working from home? During school hours, all students must sign into Canvas and complete a one question attendance quiz in student life in order to be counted as sent for the day.
Where do we find the assignments? Assignments will be located on Canvas.
What will HS/9GC/BLC teachers do during Virtual School Day? Teachers will work their regular contract day on-site and assist with the administration and proctoring of the ACT and the state tests.
Will 6th hour athletics classes be in session? Coaches will communicate with their teams.
Will most students stay home on Virtual School days to complete the assignment? Students may complete assignments from any location outside of school, however, the school will be closed. Students must submit all assignments on the virtual days unless prior arrangements have been made.
What if we do not have the Internet at home? Some Canvas assignments can be set to be available offline. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate with teachers prior to if needed to ensure this option is in place or other arrangements have been made.
What will the school day and transportation schedule look like for Juniors? Juniors will follow regular arrival and dismissal times and buses will run as usual.
