Dear BPS families,
We want to provide a quick update on our planning for the next semester in Bixby Public Schools. Obviously, there are still many unanswered questions and concerns related to the potential impact of COVID-19 on the start of school and the instructional calendar for 2020-2021. We expect there will be unanticipated factors which could also influence our plans, some of which may not be well known until later in the summer. During this uncertain time, the health and safety of our students and staff will remain at the forefront of our planning and decisions.
The Bixby Board of Education and district leadership have been actively evaluating various options for the resumption of school in August, in addition to plans for continuing the delivery of instruction to students if the district experiences a spike in COVID cases during the first semester. While we are all hopeful for a normal start of the school year and few, if any, interruptions to our calendar, we must also responsibly plan for potential closures of school and the transition of students and teachers to a distance learning model if the situation dictates. Of course, any distance learning model we implement will be significantly different than the temporary approach we ended with in May.
The link below will open to a letter our school board adopted at its meeting last Thursday. Please understand that no final decisions have been made. In fact, part of this process includes a comprehensive survey which is linked below as well. Your participation in this short survey will help inform our decision-making and will be greatly appreciated.
As always, we are committed to providing open, timely, and accurate information to you. We value your continued support, patience, and understanding as we work through these challenging times.
