Message from Supt. Miller: We're Watching the Weather!

Dear Spartan Families,

This is a reminder that Bixby Schools will not be in session on Monday, January 15th, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

In addition, the district will closely monitor weather conditions over the next few days to decide about school on Tuesday. According to most forecasts, winter precipitation is likely Sunday into Monday, accompanied by frigid temperatures extending through the middle of next week.

With the chance of subzero temperatures and wind chills as low as -20 degrees Tuesday morning, we are concerned with the potential impact on student and staff safety and the operational capacity of district equipment, including school buses. Therefore, we recommend families develop plans in the event the district needs to cancel school.

Because of the unpredictable nature of Oklahoma weather, it is premature to decide on possibly closing school now. However, we hope to announce by early Sunday evening to give staff and families as much advance notice as possible.

As part of planning our instructional calendar, the district builds in some additional days to use in the event of a school cancellation. Since this is projected to be a relatively limited weather event, we will use a weather day if school is canceled and not schedule distance learning for students.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we navigate these winter weather challenges.

Stay warm and safe.

Sincerely,

Rob Miller

Superintendent
