11/8/2020 COVID Update

November 8, 2020

BPS Families and Staff,

Regrettably, the recent surge of COVID cases in the Bixby community continues to significantly impact our district. Over the past 24 hours, we have been notified of several new positive cases among employees and students at North Elementary School. These cases will necessitate the immediate quarantine of the entire administrative office and child nutrition staff at the school, as well as one additional teacher.

As a result, North Elementary will transition to distance learning for the next two weeks. This will begin tomorrow and run through Friday, November 20. This period precedes the Thanksgiving holiday break (November 23-27) which is already on our school calendar. Therefore, we anticipate students will return to in-person instruction on Monday, November 30

As you know, the district had already moved the High School and Ninth Grade Center to distance learning for the same time period. At this time, all other school sites in the district remain open with in-person instruction

In most respects, the schedule for distance learning at North Elementary will mirror what was done earlier in the semester. Students who have been previously approved and issued a chromebook for distance learning will be able to pick this device up at the school between 9 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.

In order to allow our school time to check out necessary technology, we will be participating in “Brick to Click” activities on Monday, November 9th. Please see here for an overview. Teachers will be contacting their classes to share more detailed instructions later today or early in the morning.

Families who also wish to take advantage of our free breakfast and lunch service can pick up meals at North Elementary School from 8:45 to 10:15 a.m. each day during this distance learning period. To ensure we have adequate meals prepared for families, please complete this form if you would like to participate in this program. Families wishing to request meals for next week should fill the form out TODAY. To continue for the week after, please complete the form again on Tuesday. The district will send a reminder via text message. This service is available for ALL students.

Student medications held in the school nurse's office may be picked up by the parent or guardian if needed during the distance learning period. Please call the school during regular school hours to make arrangements.  A picture ID will be required to pick up medication.

Please let us know if you have other questions. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to a full return to face-to-face instruction on November 30.

Respectfully,

Rob Miller

Superintendent
