Student Council The BMS Student Council is a volunteer organization for leadership and service to our school and community. Any 7th or 8th grade student may apply for membership, but all members must remain academically eligible. Open enrollment is during the first month of school with election of officers following. The Student Council sponsor is Karan Stubbs. |
Gifted and Talented Organization 7th and 8th grade students who currently qualify through state and federal standards are eligible for the gifted program. Middle school gifted students are served in four ways: Pre-AP placement and honors classes, enrichment study trips that coincide with classroom objectives, academic and artistic competitions and contests, and community service. The GTO sponsors are Catherine Woods and Sherry Girard. |
MATHCOUNTS Sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, NASA, CNA, 3M, Texas Instruments, and Conoco Phillips, MathCounts is a national math enrichment, coaching, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state and territory. MathCounts is sponsored by Tracy Jackson. |
Winter Guard Winter Guard is open to BMS band members who are interested in participating in colorguard performances during the winter months. Tryouts will be on November 29th and 30th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria. Rehearsals are mandatory and will be on Mondays and Thursdays. The JV squad rehearses from 3-5 p.m. and the Varsity squad rehearses from 5-9 p.m. The cost for Winter Guard is approximately $300 per participant. Spanish Club The BMS Spanish Club is open to all students who are interested in learning about the culture, history and language of Spanish speaking countries. Students participate in lots of fun activities, such as dance lessons, music, cooking, arts and crafts, guest speakers, games, films and study trips. Club members also help the Bixby Outreach Community by donating blankets, canned food, and other items. Registration is open during the first month of school with election of officers. All students interested in the Spanish language and diverse cultures are encouraged to join! The BMS Spanish Club is sponsored by Vicky Porto. |
