The Bixby Public School District has benefited tremendously from community programs and donations. From the D.A.R.E. education program to the Rotary Club and the Foundation, the students of Bixby schools are supported by their community.
Community Programs and Successes
The Bixby Police Department, working with the Bixby Public School District, has two School Resource Officers assigned to the School Resource Officer Program. This program is a community-based policing program where officers are given the skills necessary to create individual lessons and curriculum based on the needs of the schools. Officers are certified D.A.R.E. officers who teach the D.A.R.E. program to students in the 5th and 7th grade. The officers are trained to deal with problems such as child abuse, stress, dysfunctional families, and students with special needs. Students who participate in the D.A.R.E. program are enjoying viewing the D.A.R.E. vehicle and has proven to be a great conversation starter with the children. For more information on this program, please contact the Bixby Police Department at 918.366.8294.
